The Talking Book Center

Talking Book Center

Welcome to the Talking Book Center, located on the second floor of the Staunton Public Library. We provide free library service for anyone unable to read regular print because of a visual or physical disability. We have books and magazines on tape and playback equipment; we also have materials in Braille. Books and magazines are mailed free to and from library patrons, wherever they reside. There is no charge, whatsoever, to the patron. Currently, we serve approximately 2,000 active readers. Our office is open 9:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M. Monday-Friday.

Our website has information on our program and will soon include links to other disability sites. The Talking Book Center is also part of a statewide and national network of libraries.

This free service is provided by the Library of Congress with additional support from area United Way chapters in Greater Augusta, Harrisonburg/Rockingham, and Lexington/Rockbridge. We also depend on and accept contributions from a variety of sources. Make a Contribution

Although the center is located in Staunton, it serves the counties of Augusta, Bath, Highland, Rockbridge, and Rockingham, and the cities of Buena Vista, Harrisonburg, Lexington, Staunton, and Waynesboro.

Over 70,000 books and magazines are available on cassettes and are accompanied by special easy-to-use players. There is also an Easy Cassette machine specifically designed for individuals who may find the standard cassette machine awkward to use. The materials are specially designed to be sent through the mail.
